Bengaluru: A day after an Apple executive was shot dead by the police for not stopping his car in Uttar Pradesh, a similar case of police high handedness, resulting in the death of a youth has left people shocked in the state capital.

The youth Chetan, 25, succumbed to the injuries he sustained after a traffic cop, attached to the Banaswadi traffic police station, allegedly chased and kicked a triple riding scooter causing the rider to lose control and collide against a goods vehicle. The trio sustained serious injuries in the accident that took place near Hennur on Tuesday and were immediately rushed to a hospital. While Chetan passed away on Thursday, the bike rider Vinay, 21, and the other pillion rider Kiran, 22, are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

According to witnesses the trio had crossed the Nagawara signal here when they spotted the traffic cops near Gunduthoppu bus stop and took a U-turn to avoid getting fined. The cops noticed them taking a U-turn and began chasing them on their bike. The cop who was riding pillion kicked the two-wheeler from behind, leading to the accident. The incident is said to have been captured on CCTV cameras.

Meanwhile, the Banaswadi traffic cops have denied any wrongdoing and have claimed that the trio in their bid to escape the chasing policemen had rammed into the goods vehicle after taking a U-turn. Interestingly they even filed a case naming Vinay and all others including the driver of the goods vehicle as the accused.

The victims’ family members alleged that the cops not only refused to take their complaint against the errant cops but even abused them.

However, after the death of Chetan, senior police officers are investigating the case.
