Karwar: The Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Anant Kumar Hegde has asked the state government to not to use his name even for protocols sake in the programmes that will be held by the state government in connection with the celebrations of Tipu Jayanti. The minister has also expressed anger over the celebration of Tipu Jayanti by the state government.
The minister has sent a letter in this regard to the chief secretary of the government of Karnataka and deputy commissioners of the district of Uttara Kannada and Belagavi districts. The letter has been sent through his officer on special duty Dr Vijaykumar N Torgal.
The letter states that,” The coalition government of JD (S) and Congress has decided to celebrate the Tipu Jayanti on November 10 in spite of the opposition of the people of Karnataka. It is known through history that Tipu was anti-Kannada and anti-Hindu. In addition, this celebration leads to widespread violence during protests against the celebration in several districts of the state. It is really condemnable that the government is glorifying the birthday of a person who was against society. Minister Anant Kumar Hegde condemns this strongly.”
