  • Rescue operation by local fishermen: 5 persons rescued

Haleyangadi: A trawler boat had left for fishing from Malpe when the captain of the boat lost control of his vessel at Sasihitlu near Haleyangadi. However, the fishermen from Sasihitlu noticed the situation and immediately launched a rescue operation and rescued 5 persons on the dawn on Monday.

Anjana Varshini is the name of the trawler from Malpe which had set sail for fishing two days back but in the dawn around 3am, the captain lost control of his vessel which was now being thrashed by the waves. Meanwhile, the fishermen from Sasihitlu who were fishing along the beach noticed that the fishing boat was no longer under the control of its captain and immediately acted together and were successful in pulling the boat ashore.

Haleyangadi gram Panchayat member and fisherman Chandrakumar spoke about the incident with ‘Udayavani’ and said, “When we observed that the trawler boat was sailing towards the sea to catch fish from Sasihitlu, we observed that it was floating against the action of the waves and hence we immediately launched a rescue operation and were finally successful in rescuing the 5 person on board the vessel and also pull the boat ashore near Sri Bhagavati Kshetra. On Sunday, even though there was no natural hindrance, sometimes an incident like this can happen due to a slight miscalculation because of which the captain will lose control of his vessel,” he said.

Jagadish, Harish of the Indian Coast Guard, Anil, Manoj, Dilip who are the lifeguard appointed by Sasihitlu beach development committee and local fishermen were part of the rescue operation. Surathkal police have visited the spot and are conducting investigation.
