Thokkottu: Irate locals block road after lorry falls over youth

Mangaluru: In a shocking incident, a youth sustained grievous injuries after a wood-laden lorry fell over him at Thokkottu near here on Tuesday, December 18.
The injured identified as Vasanth Kumar, a Shivamogga resident happens to the cleaner of the lorry.
It is gathered that the driver of the Kerala-bound lorry had pulled his vehicle aside after being signalled to stop by a traffic police personnel. However while pulling aside the wheels of his lorry passed over the concrete slabs laid on the roadside drain. The slabs snapped owing to the load of the lorry, whereafter the lorry tilted and fell on Kumar injuring him seriously. He was immediately taken to a hospital with help from the locals.
Meanwhile, irate citizens blamed the authorities for the mishap and even staged a protest by blocking the road here. DCP Uma Prashanth, ACP Manjunath Shetty, Ullal Inspector Gopi Krishna arrived at the venue and convinced people to call off the protest.
