Accident caused by drunk driver of field trip bus kills one student

Madikeri: A 16-year-old boy died and several others were injured when a bus toppled at Suntikoppa during the wee hours of Saturday.
The deceased is identified as Basavaraj, a student of Genikehal government school. He breathed his last on the way to the hospital.
It is gathered that students of Genikehal government school near Kurugodu Taluk of Ballari district on Friday, December 25 had set out on an excursion. There were 58 people, including 27 boys and 21 girls along with six teachers, one Group D employee, one driver and one cleaner in the bus.
The accident took place while they were returning from Mysuru after visiting KRS dam. The driver of the bus was drunk and as the result he fell asleep, causing the accident, informed sources.
The condition of the driver Johnson and school cook Siddalinga is said to be critical.
The police visited the spot after receiving the information.
