Super moon today

Udupi: This year, the moon will be visible as a ‘super-moon’ on Jan 21st, Feb 19th and Mar 21st. On these dates during the phase of full moon as a super moon, it will be 14 times larger than its usual size and shall also shine 25 times brighter than normal.

On Jan 21st, the moon will be at a distance of 3.57 lakh km from the earth m,aking it 27,000 km closer to the earth in comparison to its usual distance of 3.84 lakh km. On Feb 19th, the moon will be at a distance of 3.56 lakh km from the earth and on Mar 21st the distance will be 3.6 lakh km.

On Jan 21st, there is a lunar eclipse, but it will not be visible in India and will only be visible in Europe, north and south America, informed Dr A P Bhat, convener of the Poornaprajnya Hobby Astronomy viewers Association.
