Serial car accident: several injured

Kaup: Several persons were injured in a serial accident involving three cars that took place near Kaup-Dandateertha school along NH 66, on Sunday evening February 17th.

A Maruthi 800 car going from Udupi towards Kaup hit a Hyundai i10 going towards Mangaluru and then when onto crash into a Mahindra Scorpio which was going towards Udupi. Because of the accident, the street lamp on the divider was damaged resulting in a power cut.

The injured passengers of the Maruthi 800 car are identified as Sudhakar Acharya (40), his wife Sharada Acharya (37), chidren Sushmita (15) and Sushant (10), all residents of Belapu Malangoli and have been admitted to a hospital.

Incident synopsis

The driver of the Maruthi car which was going towards Kaup form Udupi lost control of the vehicle and hit the i10 car in front of it, climbed the divider and hit the street light. The impact broke the street lamp while the car toppled on to the opposite side of the road and collided with the Scorpio car which was going towards Udupi. Because of the collision by the Maruthi car, the i10 ended up on top of the divider.

All the passengers of the Maruthi car suffered injuries while a woman passenger in the Scorpio lost her consciousness after witnessing the sudden and terrible turn of events. The injured were shifted in a 108 ambulance and admitted at a private hospital in Udupi. Because of the accident, vehicular movement along the highway was thrown out of gear. Kaup police and locals managed to bring back the vehicular traffic to normal.

A case in this connection has been registered with Kaup police station.
