Kundapur: Woman injured in leopard attack

Kundapur: A 32-year-old woman was injured in a leopard attack in Japthi village of Kundapur taluk on Monday early morning.
The woman identified as Prema Bandi, a resident of Kailkere near Hunsemakki was on her way to deliver milk to the dairy when the leopard pounced on her. Hearing Prema’s screams local residents rushed to her rescue and the leopard escaped from the spot.
Prema, who suffered cuts on her face and neck in the attack was rushed to a nearby hospital for preliminary treatment and was later shifted to Udupi district hospital for further treatment. It is learnt that Prema is recovering and out of danger.
Forest officials rushed to the spot and kept two cages to trap the animal.
This incident comes shortly after a 52-year-old woman was attacked by a leopard on February 17.
Leopards have been sighted at Ajri, Aloor, Hunsemakki, Basroor, Japthi and Shankaranarayana villages in the taluk. Four leopards have been trapped in the last three months, two each in Kalavara and Molahalli villages.
