New taluks inauguration on March 8th
Mangaluru: Minister U T Khader has asked the police department to not to harass the public while taking preventive measures ahead of the Lok Sabha elections and to follow guidelines of the Election Commission.
“Usually ahead of elections, the police department will summon rowdies to issue warning as preventive measures. But there have been many instances where police have summoned people who were involved in minor family clashes or those who have not involved in any crime from many years,” said Mr Khader addressing the media on Wednesday, March 6.
“Habitual offenders need to be given warning and at the same time, common people who are not involved in any case, should not be harassed. When a person is not involved in any crime for many years, the police station staff has to recommend to their higher officer to withdraw their name from the rowdies list. In many instances, names have not been withdrawn and hence they are frequently harassed by police,” said the minister.

Speaking on the inauguration of the new taluks Mr Khader said, “The formation of both Moodbidri and Kadaba taluks was announced long back. But due to some reasons, they could not be officially inaugurated. The inauguration of both the taluks was postponed for the sixth time, the latest being due to the death of minister and actor Ambareesh. Both the taluks will be inaugurated on March 8.”
