Mangaluru: After a long dry spell, the residents of the city had come together to pray for early rains and as if in answer, the city received pre-monsoon showers in the early hours of Monday, May 20th. The weather in the city and its surroundings is presently cloudy.

The late hours of Sunday night experienced lightning and thunder which lasted well after midnight. Certain areas in the city received mild rains while some other parts witnessed rain after 3am.

Since the past few days, several parts of the coastal districts have been receiving mild rain but the Mangaluru city had not received any except Yeyyadi-Padavinagady-Bondel area.

The absence of pre-monsoon rains has caused an acute water shortage. Water rationing has been implemented as the water resource keeps dwindling. However, more rain is expected as the cloudy weather persists.
