Mangaluru: BJP MP from Dakshina Kannada Nalin Kumar Kateel on Monday has urged Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to intervene and help the 35 Mangalorean youths who are stranded in Kuwait for five months.
In a letter addressed to the MEA, MP Kateel asked Indian embassy officials at Kuwait to help the youth get their passports, which is being held by an agency, at the earliest so they can return to their hometown.
These youths come from poor families and had been assured of a good job in Kuwait, but realised that they had been cheated only upon arriving here, it is mentioned.
Further Kateel wrote that he had spoken to the youths and they are no more interested in working in Kuwait and only want to return to India.
The plight of these youths came to light after one of the youths posted a video on social media seeking help from Mangaluru South MLA D. Vedavyasa Kamath. In a statement on Sunday, MLA Kamath said he also has spoken to the youth over the phone.
