Cattle transportation to Kerala: Three arrested; lorry seized

Karkala: Ajkaru police arrested three persons after stopping a container lorry which was transporting cattle from Davanagere to Kerala via Mangaluru.
On Tuesday around 4am in the dawn, the cops were carrying out inspection at Kaduhole checkpost within the station limits when they stopped the container lorry arriving from Hebri and on inspection found 17 heads of cattle in the container. Altogether 17 heads of buffaloes worth Rs 2 lakh were found in the container.
The police immediately seized the lorry and arrested Raza Bhaksh, Jafar Sadik alias Abdul Munaf Sab and Ibrahim Sabjan, all from Davanagere.
The accused have admitted with the police that they had stolen the buffaloes from barns and were transporting them towards Kerala with the aim to slaughter the bovines for meat. The arrested have been remanded for judicial custody.
