RGUHS regional centre to be set at Kavoor

Mangaluru: A regional centre of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, will soon come up at Kavoor, informed RGUHS vice chancellor Dr S Sacchidanand at a press meet  here on Saturday, June 29.

“We will soon start a regional centre of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences at Kavoor. Two acres of land has been identified and memorandum has been submitted to DK deputy commissioner to provide land for the same. The regional centre will house a small sports complex. Other than Mangaluru, regional centre will come up at Belgaum, Davangere which is under tender process, while Gulbarga regional centre is under construction. A conference hall will come up in Davangere which will help in academic activities. In Belgaum we will open a cultural centre where co-curricular and extra-curricular activities will be given importance,” he informed.

“Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences is only one such university where more than 700 colleges are affiliated to it. During our 142nd syndicate meeting, we have come with several decisions such as to encourage under graduate research, provide scholarship to meritorious and poor students, insurance for the students, gold medal for the toppers under different categories, declare 10 ranks in every subject, and best thesis award. We will conduct massive faculty training for the faculty every three to four years regarding teaching methodologies and research methodologies,” he said.

“The government of Karnataka has allocated 71 acre 15 guntas of land at Archakarahalli village in Ramanagar taluk. The university syndicate has already approved the proposal of administrative block in the allocated land and the establishment may come up at a cost of Rs 60 crore. The university will take up the construction of administration block as an event of celebration of Silver Jubilee function of RGUHS. We will also come up with a conference centre for organising international level conferences and an advance research centre,” he added.

“From this year, we have made compulsory Kannada for students outside the state and there will be 40 hours of Kannada teaching. We have started placement cell which has helped thousands of students from losing money to middlemen,” said the vice chancellor.
