Puttur gang rape case taken up with Women’s Commission: UTK

Mangaluru: Speaking of the Puttur gang rape case, Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, U T Khader said that the incident was a blot on the reputation of the district and that it is the duty of everyone to strive to maintain the positive reputation of the district.

Mr Khader informed that the video of the rape having gone viral as well as the case has been taken up with Karnataka State Women’s Commission and discussion regarding the same will be held with the commission. The minister pointed out that big talk is of no use and instead, the people should get to work to maintain high moral standards and decency in public life. Such acts alone can be construed as patriotic, he opinioned.

Inhuman act

“This is an inhuman act which deserves to be condemned by one and all. I have already held discussions on the issue with police officers and chairperson of Women’s Commission, Nagalakshmi,” he explained. The minister sought support of everyone in making sure that the girl concerned gets justice and expressed the view that the perpetrators of this crime should face stringent punishment. The matter should be brought to the notice of the chairman of SC/ST Commission and the matter would be discussed in detail, added the minister.

Accused remanded to judicial custody

Five out of the eight accused were remanded to a day’s judicial custody after being produced before the first class judicial magistrate’s court on Thursday evening. Puttur DySP, Dinakar Shetty has informed that the other three accused would be produced before the judge during the night. Since the assistant public prosecutor was not present on Thursday and as objections or arguments have to be heard before bail petitions can be disposed off, the accused were remanded to a day’s judicial custody.

Meanwhile, the five main accused who were arrested relating to gang rape were produced at the residence of the fifth additional district and sessions court on Thursday evening and remanded to judicial custody till July 18.
