Udupi: Malaria cases drop; Dengue on the rise

35 cases of Malaria, 79 cases of Dengue identified until the June

Udupi: The district is known for its progress in the area of health service and the number of malaria cases here has dropped in comparison to last year. However, the number of dengue cases seems to be on the rise.

According to the survey by the Health Department up till June 2019, 79 Dengue and 35 Malaria cases have been identified. In the 2012, it was 2,217, in 2013 it was 2,205, in 2014 it was 1,639, in 2015 it was 1,363, in 2016 it was 1,168, in 2017 it was 513, in 2018 it was 221 and till June 2019 it is at 35 cases. This time, of the 89,346 suspected patients, 35 people have tested positive for malaria during their blood test.

Altogether 228 cases have been reported in the district in 2018. This year, the blood sample of 1,320 suspected patients had been tested of which, 79 patients have resulted positive for dengue. Last year, 50 cases were identified positive for the virus about the same time.

Demand for mosquito nets

53,069 mosquito nets have been supplied of which a total of 38,469 nets have been distributed including 2,559 single bed, 22,000 double bed and 8,910 family size nets.

Precautionary measure

Areas prone to malaria and dengue have been identified. These areas have been visited by the staffs of the Health Department who have spread awareness regarding malaria and dengue among the public here.

DK: 50 dengue cases within a month

Mangaluru: As many as 200 cases of dengue fever have been identified in DK district from January to July 4th, and 50 cases of the disease were identified last month alone, informs DK district health department.

Presently, dengue cases in Mangaluru have subsided. But the cases are being reported from Kadaba, Kodimbala, Guttigaru areas. Daily, one or two people are getting admitted into Kadaba Primary Health Centre. All are getting cured, informs Dr Naveen Kumar, DK District Surveillance Officer (In-charge)

11 malaria cases

Malaria is in control in the district. 23 cases were identified at Lingappayya in Surathkal last month while 11 cases were found by the 4th of this month. The health department is taking effective action here to control malaria. Regular fogging is being conducted here. But the people need to be careful. They should make sure there is no stagnant water on the terrace or in the vicinity of the house. They should take action to prevent the breeding and spread of mosquitoes. Make use of mosquito nets while sleeping requested Dr Naveen Kumar.
