Belthangady: In the backdrop of the robbery of 350 kg sandalwood logs worth Rs 14 lakh from the godown of the forest department located at Santhekatte near here on July 13th, the department had finally woken up and installed CCTV cameras for the godown.

The missing of the sandalwood logs stored at the godown after being seized in various cases came to light after some delay. But, till now there is no clue regarding the accused. A similar robbery had occurred here back in 1997 as well.

The robbers gained access to the godown by breaking open the lock and on completion of their robbery, installed the broken lock back to its place with gum. Besides, the lock is question was already in a rusted state and the cob webs had accumulated at the spot from where the logs were stolen and hence, the robbery must have occurred at week ago, suspect the police.

The godown stored close to 400 kg of sandalwood logs of which only 50 kg remains. In this backdrop, the department has finally woken up by installing CCTV camers for the godown.

9 CCTV cameras

The police department has undertaken a widespread investigation for the finding of the people responsible for the incident. Amidst this, altogether 9 CCTV cameras have been installed including 4 for the godown and 5 for the forest department office – Subbayya Naik, Zonal Forest Officer, Belthangady
