Udupi: Backing the government’s move revoking Article 370, Pejawar Adhokshaja Mutt seer Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swami said that both Hindus and Muslims of the Kashmir valley must be treated equally.
Pejawar seer in a video message to the media said, “If all the states start demanding special status, the concept of very India may face danger. Treating all equally is good. Both Hindus and Muslims of the Kashmir valley must be treated equally.”
The seer also congratulated the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amith shah for such a historic decision.
The government on Monday revoked Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and proposed that the state be bifurcated into two union territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, provoking outrage from the NC and PDP and triumph from leaders of India’s ruling BJP.
Meeting a long-held promise of the BJP, Union Home Minister Amit Shah moved a resolution in the Rajya Sabha that Article 370, which allowed Jammu and Kashmir to have its own Constitution, will no longer be applicable.
