BSY visits inundated regions; announces compensation to victims

Belthangady: Chief Minister (CM) B S Yeddiyurappa visited the Kukkavu gruel center in the taluk of Belthangady and listened to the woes of the flood-affected victims during his visit to Dakshina Kannada district to assess the damage caused by the recent deluge.
BSY announced a compensation of Rs five lakh to those who have lost their houses in the floods and Rs one lakh assistance for the repair the houses of those, whose houses were damaged during the deluge, he said.
282 houses completely destroyed
“282 houses in the district of Dakshina Kannada have been completely destroyed in the floods. These families will receive a compensation of Rs five lakh each. The deputy commissioner of the district will locate the site where the new houses will be built and will give the sanction order to the victims. The victims can build their new houses in the specified locations,” said Yeddiyurappa.
“As an emergency relief, Rs 10,000 will be distributed to the victims of floods by the evening of Monday, August 12. Rs 5,000 house rent allowance (HRA) will be given to the affected families till the time the new house is built or the damaged house is repaired,” informed the CM.
Road repair
BSY also said that the road repair work and construction of retainer walls will begin soon. The DC will submit a report on the damage to crop and property, he explained.
The CM was accompanied by MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, MP Nalin Kumar, MLA Harish Poonja, MLC Ivan D’Souza and former minister Nagaraja Shetty.
