Mangaluru: Following the sinking of Tridevi Prem dredger near Panambur port, several things which were within the vessel have begun to float towards the shore. The debris includes items like emergency rescue items, thermocol and other things which ended up at Panambur and Baikampady seashores. The locals informed Panambur police of the situation. The dredger, anchored about 2.5 nautical miles off the port, had sunk on September 2.

Earlier, the office of the director general of shipping of the central government has served notice on the company which owns the ill-fated dredger to ensure that oil in the generator of the dredger does not spill and pollute the sea.

Apparently, the owner of the vessel Mercator Ltd, is facing financial crisis, and its crew members have not been paid their salaries since some months. It is presumed that the funds crunch, forced the company to not to shift its dredger back to Mumbai since the last several months. But presntly, the sunken dredger is likely to create problems for New Mangalore Port Trust as it has sunk on the route by which ships move in and out of the port.
