Mangaluru: Since textbooks have not yet reached the schools which have started 1st std English medium, the students are finding it hard to prepare for their mid-term exams. Hence, the teachers are resorting to getting photocopies of the available textbook and providing it to the students.
English medium had been started for 1st std at 1,000 government schools in the state since June. The government has set a maximum limit of 30 students for the English medium 1st std education. But, since more than 30 students have joined at some schools in the district, a lack of textbooks is being faced. Every selected school was provided with 30 textbooks, hence additional students are facing the lack of textbooks.
No Nalikali books either
Some schools have not yet received the Kannada Nalikali books. There too, the teachers have provided photocopies of the available book to the students, informed a teacher of an affected school.
Only schools wherein more than 30 students have joined 1st std English medium are facing textbook shortage. Reprints have already been ordered for and will be distributed immediately to the children as soon as the books reach the district department – Y Shivaramayya, DDPI
Only Tekkatte school in Udupi district is facing textbook shortage. Hence, additional textbooks at schools with less than 30 students have been redirected to schools with additional students to manage the shortage – Ashok Kamath, Kundapur BEO
