Mangaluru: A day after Kadri East Police inspector Shantaram Kunder was relieved from station duty following an investigation into a viral video of the police firing, PFI leader Haneef Katipalla, has filed a case against the police officer at Bundar Police Station.
In his complaint Katipalla alleged that Kundar provoked the police personnel to take people down with an intention to kill near Menon Masjid in Bunder of December 19 when protests against CAA and NRC turned violent in the city leading to police firing that killed two people and injured others.
The complaint was registered on the basis of the viral video that has been doing rounds on social media platforms since December 19.
In the video, a police official, allegedly Shantaram can be heard saying “no one died in police firing”. The comments led to a huge outcry with many questioning the police action.
According to sources, Shantaram in his clarification said that he was responding to a constable who said people standing in balconies of their houses may be injured in the firing.
