Mumbai: In an advertisement of Nirma Washing Powder, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar is shown as a King of Maratha soldiers, all in soiled clothes. The womenfolk get annoyed with the state of the clothes, to which Akshay Kumar retorts, “Maharaj aur uski sena dushman ko dhona jaanti hai, aur apne kapde bhi “(The King’s army can wash clothes as well as it can thrash the enemy!)
The actor then uses Nirma washing powder to wash his cloths followed by dancing funnily with background dancers. Many Netizens have been alleging that the actor’s ad defames Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Maratha warriors.
Netizens showed their views about the video which was not in favour of the washing powder ad. #BoycottNirma is now trending on Twitter with over twenty-one thousand tweets.

Nirma was a trusted brand and household name among all Hindus. We loved that company as it was one of the early Made in India companies. Now the very same company is being ungrateful to the people of India and hurting Dharmik sentiments. Hence our reply to them #BoycottNirma

A police complaint has been filed against Akshay Kumar at the Worli police station in Mumbai on Monday in this regard. The complainant- named Suryakant Jagannath Jadhav- in the complaint stated the people of Maharashtra were deeply hurt with the advertisement. The complainant urged the police to take action against the company and the actor for ‘maligning’ Maharashtrian culture, condemning the act while handing a CD with the video.
