Forest guard personnel caught red-handed while accepting bribe

Beltangady: A forest guard personnel was arrested on Wednesday, January 8 after being caught red-handed by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials while accepting Rs 3,000 bribe from a person for granting permission to fell Mahogany trees for his personal use.

The arrested identified as Sudheer N, 33, is alleged to have sought a bribe of Rs 15,000 from Gopalakrishna Herale, a resident of Beltangady. Herale, in a complaint, lodged on January 7 said that he had sought a permit from the forest department for felling of Mahogany trees purchased by him. However, Sudheer demanded bribe while assuring Herale of making all arrangements.

Herale had paid Rs 10,000 bribe to Sudheer on January 3. Later when he demanded an additional bribe he lodged a complaint with the ACB officials.
