Mangaluru: Kambala Academy will be giving preliminary training to Srinivas Gowda at Swaraj Maidan Moodbidri and Mangala Stadium here, informed Kambala Academy convener, Gunapal Kadamba.

Following Srinivas Gowda’s record-breaking performance during the Aikala Kambala here, Sports Minister Kirien Rijiju had recommended his name for Sports Authority of India (SAI) trials.

Noting that Gowda, a construction worker from Moodabidri, has not run with sports shoes and lacks any kind of formal training or knowledge of tracks and athletics, Kadamba said that Kambala academy trainer Vasanth Jogi will train Srinivas initially.

On Saturday, officials from SAI met Gowda at Paivalike and invited him to attend training at Bengaluru. After conclusion of the Kambala season on March 7, Gowda is likely to attend the training in April, informed Kadamba.
