Double line between Mangaluru Junction and Padil stations commissioned

Mangaluru: Southern Railway has completed the work of doubling of tracks between Mangaluru Junction and Padil. Inorder to reduce the congestion of trains and facilitate their hassle-free movement, the Southern railway had undertaken several works, including between Mangaluru junction and Panambur yard via Padil.

Of the 19-km stretch between Mangaluru Junction and Padil, work on 17-km stretch is complete and work on the 2-km stretch between Kulashekar and Padil, including 600 mts of tunnel at Kulashekar, is in progress. This is expected to be completed by March 2021.

Prior to the doubling work, the single line track from Mangaluru Junction resulted in the stranding of passenger trains for hours to facilitate the movement of goods trains via Konkan and Mysuru route. To reduce the congestion and for facilitating a hassle-free movement of trains, a double line track is being laid between Mangaluru Junction and Panambur stations, stated a press realease rom M K Gopinath, PRO, Palakkad Division.

On Tuesday, the double line between Mangaluru Junction and Padil stations was commissioned and Train No 12617 Eranakulam Junction – H Nizamuddin Mangala Express was the first train to run on the newly commissioned double line.

The provision of two engine lay byes at Mangaluru Junction will facilitate traction change. The replacement of Electronic Inter-locking with upgraded Electronic Interlocking and Dual Visual Display Unit at Mangaluru Jn and at Padil is completed.
