M’luru varsity’s Dept of Biosciences organizes UGC-sponsored National Seminar on Pollution and Bioremediation

Mangaluru: The Department of Biosciences, Mangalore University which is currently recognized under the UGC-Special Assistance Program (SAP) & DST-Fund for Improvement of Science and Technology Infrastructure (FIST), Government of India is organizing a National Seminar on Pollution & Bioremediation-Current Scenario & Future Prospects on March 7th. The theme of the Seminar is Bioremediation which is a biological process using organisms to cleanse water bodies and soil of pollutants with less disruption of the contaminated environment.
Prof. Indrani Karunasagar, Director, UNESCO Centre for Medical & Marine Biotechnology, and Director (R&D), NITTE (Deemed to be University) will inaugurate the seminar. The keynote address on Bioremediation-Recent trends & Avenues will be delivered by Prof. K.R. Sridhar, Adjunct Professor, Department of Biosciences, Mangalore University.
Other resource persons are Prof. Balachandra Hegde Sayimane (Research Coordinator, Sahyadri Wildlife and Forest Conservation Trust), Prof. Muthukumar Muthuchamy (Dean, School of Earth Science Systems & Head, Department of Environmental Science, Central University of Kerala), Dr Samir Damare (Principal Scientist, Department of Biological Oceanography, CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography, Goa).
A highlight of the Seminar is a Poster Session wherein delegates from various institutions, universities and colleges from Karnataka and outside the state will present their research related to the topic.
