Kerala is ready to explore the test named convalescent plasma therapy against the Covid-19.
Plasma therapy is transfusion of specific components from the blood of people recovered from Covid 19 into those who are infected.
It is said that the recovered person’s plasma will be rich in antibodies and is expected to help the infected patient.
The therapy is not new, it was used for dealing with infections in the past and was also used during the Ebola outbreak. When a person gets infected, it takes 5-7 days for immune system to start releasing antibodies which can help fight the virus.
The Plasma Therapy is meant only for COVID-19 patients who are likely to get critical and on ventilator support.
Developing a vaccine for Covid-19 will take years and researchers of India are trying various treatments and drugs to handle the current situation.
