Bengaluru: The Karnataka government on Monday, April 13 gave its nod to the Bengaluru Metropolitan Municipal Corporation’s idea to conduct its council meeting for budget presentation through video conferencing.

The budget was supposed to have been presented on or before April 1 but has been delayed by almost 13 days, Palike officials said.

This has resulted in desperation among the public representatives as no works would be carried out without the council’s approval, they said.

On the insistence of corporators and other public representatives from Bengaluru, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) commissioner B H Anil Kumar sought government approval to present the budget through video conferencing, which was given.

Kumar told PTI thar since the lockdown is in force, people cannot gather together to present the budget at the BBMP’s council building.

“I had proposed the presentation of budget through video conferencing. The government agreed with the suggestion I had made,” he said.

Only the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, chairperson of the standing committee on taxation and finance, BBMP Commissioner, leader of the ruling party, leader of the opposition party and other key persons would be present, Kumar said.

The other corporators would participate in the process through video conferencing from the place they have chosen.

The date for presenting the budget has not yet been finalised, Kumar added.
