New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday, May 8 extended the deadline for special CBI court, Lucknow to deliver its judgement in the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition case involving BJP veterans LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharti and others by August 31.

The extension was given after the CBI judge sought more time owing to the nationwide induced coronavirus lockdown. The final verdict in the case was to be delivered by April-end.

The apex court has directed the CBI court to complete the trial in the case by August end via video conferencing facilities.

A bench comprising Justices R F Nariman and Surya Kant asked the trial judge to ensure that the present deadline is not breached.
