Udupi: District’s green zone status under severe stress

Udupi: The district administration is facing the daunting task of keeping the district as a Green Zone as this status is being threatened by rising COVID-19 cases in neighbouring districts and the arrival of people from other districts and States.

In Bhatkal, Uttara Kannada district, 7 new cases were reported on Wednesday, May 6. Shimoga district where there was not a single case, reported 8 first cases. Dakshina Kannada district registered 3 new cases on Saturday, May 9.

All these districts border Udupi.

Meanwhile, 30 people from Udupi district who had visited the First Neuro Hospital in Mangaluru have been placed in quarantine. Their samples have been sent for testing.

In another case, a man from Padubidri who had visited COVID-19-affected districts had flu-like symptoms. His samples too have been sent for testing.

Reports of all the above-mentioned cases are yet to arrive.

Arrivals in the district stood at 133 on Sunday, May 10. Between May 4 and 10, 471 people from Telangana, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh have arrived in the district. All of them have been sent to quarantine centres.

A total of 93 people’s samples were collected on Sunday, May 10. Of these 5 have respiratory problems, 1 had contact with COVID-19 positive patient, 6 have ​​flu, and 81 were in a COVID-19 hotspot. 24 people’s test reports arrived with all testing negative. 232 people’s report is yet to come.
