Udupi: MIT alumna helps migrant workers stranded in railway station

Udupi: An alumni of the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) helped 49 migrants from Telangana who are stuck in Udupi railway station to return back to their hometown amid COVID-19 lockdown.
Saisri Akondi, A resident of Mumbai who pursued BTech at MIT had come to Manipal for important work. However, she was stuck in the town due to the nationwide lockdown.
She had gone to Udupi railway station for some work on May 12 and noticed that around 49 migrant workers from Telangana stranded in the station to return back to their natives.
Upon checking, she learned that they did not know about ‘Sevasindhu’ website launched by the government and how to register on that website.
She had logged into the ‘Sevasindhu’ website from her laptop and registered their details in an attempt to help them return back to their state. Saisri also posted about this on social media and tagged Telangana CM as well. In response to this, the office of CM had called her and spoke about this.
All the Migrant workers have started the journey back to their natives on May 19 in 2 KSRTC buses. Many people have appreciated Saisri’s efforts in these tough times.
