Ban on fishing activity in Mangaluru, Udupi from June 1 to July 31

Mangaluru: The state government has issued orders banning fishing activities in the coastal area for a two-month period starting from June 1.
As per the orders, issued under Karnataka Marine Fishing (Regulation) Act, mechanised vessels and motorised boats, fitted with in-board or outboard engines beyond 10 HP capacity are barred from undetaking any fishing activity between June 1 to July 31.
Fishermen violating the order would face punishment as per Marine Fishing Act 1986 and also deprived of diesel subsidy benefits for a year.

The order is issued in interest of the safety of fishermen during the monsoon, stated a release from the office of the district fisheries deputy director.
