Bengaluru: Amid the ongoing row over naming of the Yelahanka flyover in Bengaluru after Veer Savarkar, the BBMP has sought response from the public on the issue.
People can submit their opinion on naming of the Yelahanka flyover on or before June 20, informed BBMP mayor, Gautham Kumar.
Chief Minister Yediyurappa was supposed to inaugurate the flyover on May 28, the day also being the birth anniversary of revolutionary freedom fighter Veer Savarkar.
The inaugural was however postponed and it is now gathered that a final notification in regard with naming of flyover will be taken on basis of opinion submitted by the public.
Opposition party leaders, including Siddaramaiah and HD Kumaraswamy have questioned the decision of the government to name the flyover after Veer Savarkar. Why not name it after freedom fighter hailing from Karnataka, they have expressed.
BJP leaders too attacked the opposition stating that several institutions in Karnataka have been named after leaders who do not hail from the state.
Meanwhile, though the official naming of the flyover did not take place on Thursday, few persons have scribbled ‘Freedom fighter Veer Savarkar Flyover’ over the flyover in Kannada.
