A video of few snake rescuers, from Jharkand celebrating the World Snake day by cutting a cake and feeding it to snakes has gone viral on social media. Many netizens were left enraged with this disgusting act with few even saying that the snakes needed to be rescued from these rescuers.

World Snake Day is observed on July 16 to raise awareness about these reptiles and the role they play in maintaining delicate ecological balance across the world. Several people shared interesting photos, facts and pictures of these creatures on Twitter but this particular video shared by a group of snake rescuers went viral for all wrong reasons.

Virat Singh, a former journalist with an active interest in conservation and wildlife, shared this video on Twitter and tagged several experts and Indian Forest Services (IFS) officers, asking them to look into the issue.

In the video, a lady is seen cutting the cake and then feeding it to some snakes that were caught by the team. She also goes on to say that the cakes have honored them by actually eating the cake.

Meanwhile netizens called out the cruel act and accused the rescuers of having malicious intentions and setting up the situation to get publicity. Snakes are carnivorous creatures and feeding them human food is dangerous.

After the video went viral, several government officials took cognizance of the matter. “Kindly let me know if you find more details. I will take this up with PCCF(WL) Jharkhand. This is foolish and needs to stop,” wrote Saket Badola, an IFS officer.
