Kundapura: Teleworking techies travel 15-18 km daily for network

Kundapura: More than 50 technology company workers in the taluk, working from home since the beginning of the COVID-19-induced lockdown, have to travel more than 15 kilometres every day to receive adequate network for work.

Many of them have taken up rented houses in Siddapura and Kamashile towns. They commute every day from their homes in villages nearby Kamalashile to the rented houses for work carrying lunch boxes.

Hallihole village resident Samrudh states that coming to the town for work becomes a problem when he has to work night shifts.

There was a mobile telephony mast of BSNL and another private company in Hallihole. However, due to a few customers, they were dismantled later.

Apart from the technology workers many of the students in the villages now have online classes. Some parents of the students are leaving and bringing them back form their relatives’ homes every day.

Hallihole and other villages within Kamalashile gram panchayat limits have 973 houses with a population of 4,438. There are 2 or more mobile phones in each house.

Shimoga MP BY Raghavendra stated that proposal to build more than 20 mobile telephony masts in rural areas of Byndoor have been sent to the concerned authorities and the network problem there will be solved soon.
