Bengaluru: “I will stay in Congress until I die. There is no question of joining the BJP. I am loyal to the Congress. Will not support Narendra Modi even in my dreams. We had written the letter with good intentions for the Congress,” said former Union minister and senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily.

Speaking at a news conference on Monday, August 24 he said: “23 senior Congress leaders had written to Sonia Gandhi about the reorganization of the Congress. I too signed that letter. We have not questioned the leadership in the letter. Only one copy was given to Sonia Gandhi. Who leaked the letter? This should be investigated and action must be taken on them.”

“Even when the Congress had split earlier during Indira Gandhi’s time we remained loyal to Indira. We are in the Congress because we believe in the principles of the party. The Congress will return to power in 2024,” he added.

“A committee for Congress’s reorganization has been formed. I welcome the continuation of Sonia Gandhi as interim president. There were reports that Rahul Gandhi said that we had joined hands with the BJP. Later he clarified that he never said so, hence we will not continue to discuss it,” he said.

“We have never questioned the Congress leadership in the letter. In fact, we have praised the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in just two paragraphs in the letter. The party needs grassroots reorganisation and organisational elections that the summary of the letter,” reiterated Moily.
