Its time to say farewell to Macaulay’s education system: Suresh Kumar

Bengaluru: “The moment we say goodbye to the education system of Lord Macaulay is imminent,” said Primary and Secondary Education Minister Suresh Kumar.
Speaking about the new National Education Policy at the University of Bangalore, he said that the National Education Policy has paved the way for a revolutionary change in the field of education which will create a new direction for and inspire students’ towards rational thinking and social skills.
Referring to the new education policy proposals on curriculum and pedagogy for the school system, the minister said that the Policy is flexible allowing States to adapt it as per their cultural needs and Karnataka has become one of the few States in the country to implement the new education policy.
“A draft policy has already been formulated for the State and the Department of Primary and Secondary Education and the Department of Higher Education will jointly implement the new policy,” he added.
Referring to the many positive aspects of the new education policy, he said that the Karnataka government has already implemented some guidelines from the policy such as experiential learning, sports integrated education and learning through stories.
