Bengaluru: A mega e-Lok-Adalat through video conference will be held on September 19 in all court complexes in the state.

The Karnataka State Legal Services Authority has requested parties in pre-litigation cases to approach the legal services authorities concerned or committees prior to the date of the mega e-Lok-Adalat through video conference.

The litigants whose cases are pending in courts are requested to approach the High Court Legal Services Committee, District Legal Services Authorities in the district headquarters, Taluk Legal Services Committees in every taluk and the Permanent Lok Adalats of the state stated the release by Karnataka State Legal Services Authority.

Lok Adalat (People’s Court) is one of the Alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in India, it is a forum where cases pending on panchayat or at pre-litigation stage in a court of law are settled. They have been given statutory status under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.

As per the Act, the decision made by the Lok Adalats is deemed to be a case of a civil court and is final and binding on all parties, and no appeal against such an award lies before any court of law. If the parties are not satisfied with the recognition of the Lok Adalat (though there is no provision for an appeal against such a prize), they are free to initiate litigation by approaching the court of appropriate jurisdiction.

The concept of Lok Adalat (People’s Court) is an innovative Indian contribution to the world jurisprudence. The introduction of Lok Adalats added a new chapter to the justice dispensation system of this country and succeeded in providing a supplementary forum to the victims for a satisfactory settlement of their disputes. This system is based on Gandhian principles.
