Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee staged a protest in front of the city’s Mini Vidhan Soudha, condemning the Central and State government’s stand on the relocation of the office of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax (PCIT) from Mangaluru to Goa.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA UT Khader said that the BJP government has not done any development works in the city and now is transferring existing government offices and facilities from the district or privatising them. They are diverting the attention of the public through emotional issues.
“GST and demonetisation had already caused enough trouble to the people now they want to give another shock to the more than 4 lakhs local taxpayers by relocating the I-T office. The local MP is silent on this issue. He should resign if he cannot do anything about it. The office relocation order must be withdrawn immediately,” said Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee president Harish Kumar.
The participants in the protest included former MLAs Ivan D’Souza, JR Lobo, former minister Abhayachandra Jain, as well as district Congress leaders and workers.
