Bengaluru: After the government gives a go-ahead for theatres and multiplexes, first priority will be given to movies that released during the February-March period but halted due to lockdown, Karnataka Film Chamber of commerce (KFCC) said.

Following the spread of the COVID-19 infection, the Karnataka government has banned the theatres and multiplexes from operating which severely impacted the Kannada film industry.

Many producers and production companies are facing economic hardship without any income over the past five months. For some producers who released films in February- March period, they haven’t even received the money spent on the release of movies.

In a move to help such filmmakers, KFCC is planning to allow these filmmakers to re-release their movies first to ensure that they receive a return for their investment.

The chamber is expecting the government to allow theatres and multiplexes to operate by the end of September. Many producers, distributors, and exhibitors of films have begun pre-screening the films.
