What is the NDPS Act under which Rhea Chakraborty has been booked?

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested Rhea Chakraborty for her alleged role in drug procurement to Sushant Singh Rajput on Monday, Sep 7.

She has been charged under sections, 27 (A), 21, 22, 28 and 29 of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).

The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act prohibits any individual who is engaged in any activity consisting of producing, cultivating, selling, purchasing, transporting, storing, and/or consuming any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance.

The NDPS bill was presented in the Lok Sabha on 23 August 1985 and later, passed by both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Later on, the then President Giani Zail Singh received this on 16 September 1985 and came into force on 14 Nov 1985.

Section 27 A: This section imposes punishment for the consumption of any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance, like cocaine or morphine. It carries similar penalties.

Section 21: Under this section, the one who manufactures, possesses, sells, purchases, transports, imports inter-State, exports inter-State or uses any manufactured drug or any preparation containing any manufactured drug shall be punishable

Section 22: This section punishes possession, sale, purchase, transport or import of psychotropic substances

Section 28 and 29: Under this section, the offences of attempting to commit offences, and for abetment and criminal conspiracy are dealt
