Odisha is among the top 10 states in India with the most number of COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, Sep 23. Rising number of Covid-19 cases has brought to fore the inadequateness of critical care support and poor management in the in Bhubaneswar

As of September 22, the state was also eighth with 34033 actives cases. The capital city of Bhubaneswar has been hit badly in terms of numbers

As reported by Indian Express, The lockdown was lifted in the month of August and all curbs were eased and night curfew was lifted in September

Government officials blame the spike on poor compliance of Covid-19 norms by the public such as not wearing masks or not maintaining social distancing.

Also, the city ramped up its testing and is conducting 3,500 daily tests on average. Mobile testing vans have also been deployed to increase testing in the city.

The Covid-19 hospitals in Bhubaneswar and other urban centres are running out of beds and the government has amended its advisory for provisioning a COVID-19 unit in private hospitals with 30 or more beds.

According to Frontline, The government has made it mandatory for all private hospitals with a bed strength of 30 or more in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Berhampur and Rourkela Municipal Corporations limits to designate a minimum 50 per cent of their general beds and 80 per cent of ICUs for treatment of COVID patients.

Also, the government has directed that patients be discharged after 10 days from the date of sample collection
