Week after hike, Karna govt reduces penalties for mask rule violation

Bengaluru: The state government on Wednesday reduced the penalty for not wearing face masks in public from the earlier Rs 1000 to Rs 250 urban areas and from Rs 500 to Rs 100 in rural areas with immediate effect.
Chief minister BS Yediyurappa said that the decision to reduce the fines for face mask violation was taken in the backdrop of public opposition and experts’ opinions.
The hike in fines was implemented by the state government recently to check the spread of COVID-19.
