Bengaluru: Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah has urged the Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa led-BJP government to get the Centre’s approval for a state flag.
Speaking with this regard Siddaramaih said,”During my tenure as CM of Karnataka, I had sent Kannada flag to the centre for approval. The flag was designed by the expert committee based on history, culture & legal issues. The flag is not approved by Central BJP and this just exposes BJP’s prejudice towards Kannadigas.”
“Irrespective of the opinion of Central BJP leaders, State BJP leaders should pressurise Prime Minister to grant official status to Karnataka flag,” the former Karnataka CM added.
He also claimed there is nothing in the Constitution that prohibits states from having its own flag.
Earlier, Congress had taken objection pointing out many district administrative bodies did not hoist the state flag on Kannada Rajyotsava. However, CM Yediyurappa had hoisted the Karnataka flag in the event held in Bengaluru.
