M’luru, Udupi: More than 50K to be administered COVID-19 vaccine in 1st phase

Mangaluru, Udupi: More than 50,000 people – about 40,000 in Dakshina Kannada and 14,000 in Udupi districts – will be vaccinated in the first phase of the mass COVID-19 vaccination programme to be conducted in the twin districts.

Health authorities in both the districts administrations stated that all preparations for storage of the vaccines such as deep freezers and walk-in freezers are ready.

The district administrations have also identified more than 4,500 specialists who will be administering the vaccine, the training for it will be provided to them from Bengaluru.

In the first phase of the vaccination health workers in private and government hospitals such as nurses, physicians, health department employees, D Group employees and non-medical staff: ambulance drivers, hospital sanitation workers will be vaccinated.

In the second phase defence and police personnel and employees of local urban and rural bodies and in the third phase all citizens over 50 years of age will be vaccinated.
