‘Vidyarthi Adalats’ to start in Mangalore University

Mangaluru: The Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University Professor PS Yadapadithaya has announced that Vidyarthi Adalats (Students Courts) will be conducted in all three districts coming under the varsity’s jurisdiction.

Speaking about the functions of the Adalat, he said that it aims to address the grievances of students on the spot and shall be conducted every month.

Addressing the audience on the 41st Foundation Day celebrations at the University on December 19, he said that the Syndicate has taken a decision in this regard and that the Swamy Vivekanand Study Centre, Kundapura Kannada Study Centre, Arebhashe Study Centre and Kavi Muddanna Study Centre will be set up in the University soon.

The Vice-Chancellor also informed that the university had sought funds from the government to set up Dr VS Acharya Centre for Coastal Development Studies and a proposal on a 400-metre synthetic track and a swimming pool were also submitted.

He further added that the university has written to the State and Central governments seeking funds for setting up of Ambedkar Research Centre and the university has introduced a new course, Master of Science in Cybersecurity and Master of Science in Forensic Science.

He also informed that the mid-day meal for poor students will be implemented at the university campus and five postgraduate courses will begin at the Advanced Research Center of the university in Belapu, Udupi in 2021-2022.

Speaking about the National Education Policy, the Vice-Chancellor said that the NEP 2020 will be implemented at the university and that an interim report on the implementation of NEP will be submitted in March by the task force committee constituted by the university.

The international student hostel which is under construction shall have a Pareeksha Bhavana, which shall be inaugurated by the chief minister in June 2021 adding that the university will also have a VVIP guestroom.

The University will even set up a wall of kindness in order to collect useful items from the public so people in need can collect them for free, he added.

The Vice-Chancellor also said that the university will strive for eco-friendly campus and paperless office with e-governance. The university is also trying to get rid of drugs, garbage, spitting and single-use plastics.

The university is all geared up for the third cycle of re-accreditation by the National Assessment Accreditation Council to retain its ‘A’ grade, the Vice-Chancellor said.
