Bengaluru: Indian Medical Association (IMA) doctors protested against the government’s move to allow Ayurveda doctors to perform surgeries.
They submitted copies of a memorandum to local authorities on February 15 to revoke the permission. The memorandum was submitted after a 14-day hunger strike called ‘Save Healthcare India Movement’.
Recently, the Central government allowed post-graduate scholars of Ayurveda to formally practice general surgery, including ortho and dentistry
IMA has strongly condemned the move by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), which regulates the medical study and practice of Ayurveda in the country.
IMA doctors claim that the move by the Union government is absolutely unscientific as each stream has its own set of rules and practices developed over centuries. Mixing all these fields will result in a public health crisis.
