Udupi: Three persons, who were accused of obstructing police officials from discharging their duties, were found guilty by the additional JMFC court. They were punished with a jail term and fine.
The guilty have been identified as Bhoja Kanchan, Ravi Kunder and Nagesh Kunder from Kalmady in Kodavoor village.
The case dates back to May 31, 2014 when the then traffic police sub-inspector, Mahadevappa
Diddimane, along with some other personnel, were checking vehicles at Kalmady within Malpe police station limits at 11.25 pm. The three accused were passing by the road in three motor bikes, in an intoxicated condition and were conversing with each other in a loud tone. When sub-inspector
Diddimane stopped them, they tried to attack him by questioning him about his right to check vehicles at this late hour.
The then deputy superintendent of police, Annamalai, chanced to arrive at the spot during his patrol rounds. The guilty did not care for him too and attempted to damage the breath analyzer by pulling at it from the hands of the sub-inspector and obstructed police officials from carrying out their duty.
A complaint was later lodged in Malpe police station. The then police circle inspector, Srikanth K, investigated the case and filed charge sheet in the court.
Manjunath M S, the judge of the court, after conducting hearings and listening to evidences, supplemental evidence, arguments and counter arguments, came to the conclusion that the charges leveled against the accused were true.
He held them guilty under section 353 and 34 of Indian Penal Code and sentenced them to six months of imprisonment with a fine of Rs 1,000 each.
