4-day state-level swimming competitions begin in Udupi

Udupi: The 23rd State Short Course Swimming Competition splashed into action at the Ajjarakad District Swimming Pool on Thursday. The four-day aquatic competition hosted by the State Swimming Association will enthrall spectators till December 10, showcasing the swimming prowess of Karnataka’s budding talents.

A whopping 480 contestants, representing various districts across the state, have dived headfirst into the competition.

Participants, categorized by age—below 14, 17, and 19—will battle across a range of events. From the electrifying 25 to the grueling 1500 meters in freestyle, along with the 50, 100, and 200 meters in other strokes, the stage is set for breathtaking performances.

Participants in the open category are vying for glory. The competition will also serve as entry criteria for the Southern Zone Swimming Competition. Those who clinch the top two spots secure entry to the prestigious inter-state competition slated for December 27 to 29 in Bengaluru.

Contestants from several districts including Udupi, D.K., Bengaluru, Mysuru, Shivamogga, and Mandya are vying for the top spots.

State Swimming Association Vice President Rakshit Jagdale, Swimming Development Officer Rohit Babu, and coaches Lokraj, Brijesh, and Skanda were present.
