41 swimmers cross sea from St Mary’s island to Malpe beach at Udupi

Udupi: To raise awareness on the activity of swimming, 41 swimmers from the Kadekaru Swimming Club swam across the sea between St Mary’s island and Malpe beach under the leadership of senior swimmer Gangadhar G.
The swimmers, who were divided into four teams, left the island at 7:10 am and crossed the 3.8 kilometres of the sea to reach the beach at 9:45 am.
The four lead swimmers leading their teams were carrying the national flag.
After the swimmers reached the beach an event was held at the Jnanjyothi Mandir at Malpe where certificates and medals were handed over to them.
Gangadhar G, who recently created a record by swimming in the padmasana posture with his legs chained, also received his India Book of Records certificate at the event.
The 41 swimmers included a 9-year-old boy, young boys and girls, a woman and four over the age of 60.
